This Newsletter is the second of an occasional
series designed to keep you up to date on what has been happening
on the Giles Tribute Pages.
Revamp
As you can see from the style of this page the site has undergone
a major revamp. Partly this was to improve navigation around
the site, partly to tidy up some areas that had got a little
untidy as the site had grown [currently about 180 pages!]. I have also taken
the opportunity to cut some of the file sizes by breaking down
some files into smaller units and removing some graphics where
I thought that they were unnecessary. All of the images are still
in there somewhere - there is just a little less duplication.

In doing this I am conscious of the possibility of errors
creeping in so please let me know of any broken links, missing graphics,
etc. that you find.
New

As some of you know the Giles Annual for 2001 (Series 54) is
now available, as is the Facsimile of Series 7. They were supposedly
both published in September but are only just getting to booksellers.

Cartoonists
Rights Network Romania
invite you to visit the new SmileClub,
a site about Eastern European Cartoons.
Nicolae Ionita the President of CRNR and
SmileClub has set a link to The Giles Tribute pages as a "homage
to Giles, a great of World Cartooning".
He asks "Can you help us, to learn
more about Carl Giles?
Can you send us, for our library one of his cartoon books?"

Spreadsheet
Here is a biggie! We have amongst us a hero. A man with far too
much time on his hands obviously. Alan Freedman has made
a spreadsheet containing the dates of all of the cartoons from
the Express that have been reproduced, not only in the
annuals but in other places as well. And what is more he wants
to share it by putting this database
on the Giles Tribute Pages.
From it you can see how many of each years'
cartoons have been reproduced, and indeed the total (currently
about 6,000). Thus if you are looking for cartoons from a particular
date you can see where you can find it, even if it did not appear
in the relevant annual.

Search
Here is the other new feature. You can now go to Cartoon
Search and enter a keyword which will find a cartoon to match.
At present there are not too many cartoons in the database but
I shall gradually add as many as I have the time and web space
for.

Sites
I have added links to several other sites that list cartoons.
Some of them feature both animated and still cartoons and have
reciprocal links to mine.
Wish
List
There are a number of Giles items that I have not seen but would
love to have images of to put on this site, etc. If anyone has
these and could provide an image then please get in touch.

- or any other article with no picture on
this site.
There was also a commercial TV programme
biography of Giles that somebody must have taped. If I knew which
TV company then perhaps we could campaign to have it repeated.
