Another Newsletter in the occasional series designed to keep you up to date on what has been happening on the Giles Tribute Pages.
I had conceived that I would produce these
newsletters about every three months. However, as soon as I had
sent out the last one a number of things occurred that I felt
I ought to pass on. Think of this one as a kind of Christmas
Card. May I wish you the Seasons Greetings.
Collectables
Magazine
If you are into collecting in the UK you may have seen the double
page spread in Collectables magazine for December 2000
[No. 36, p.58]. Under their 'What's Hot' series written by Judith
Clarke there appears an article entitled 'Giles Annuals, A
collectors' guide'. Illustrated by reproductions of thirteen
front cover illustrations and two Forewords, there is a brief
description of Giles, the Family and the Annuals. There is also
a discussion of the current prices of the Annuals and Specials
both at auction and generally. It goes on to list Further Information;
the Giles Tribute pages, of course, which are described as "comprehensive
and attractive" [thank you ma'm], plus Ian Knights site
and the books by Peter Tory and Robert Beaumont.
Unknown
Book
I get mail. One recent correspondent tells me about a book of
Giles's that I have never heard of before. He writes "there's
one book which eludes me . . . I'm pretty sure it's called something
like "The Unknown Giles" which contains mostly unpublished
stuff: some of it fairly un-publishable. It came out about five
years ago . . . not published by Pedigree". Any ideas,
anybody? Does anybody have a copy?
US
Forces Special Edition
I get mail 2. Another correspondent asks me "Is there
any way I can get a good quality scan or a color photocopy of
the U.S. Forces front & back cover? I'd be happy to cover
any costs". Anyone willing to help please contact me in the first instance.
Giles's
in Exhibition
For those residing in or near London, England, there is a gallery
near Piccadilly who are running an exhibition of Cartoons until
January 5th, 2001, including four original Giles's. It is the
Chris Beetles Gallery at 8&10, Ryder Street, St. James's.
In fact they have another eleven Giles originals in stock to
sell but to view them you would need to ring in advance. I am
told that they normally have a small number of Giles's for sale.
Times Monday to Saturday, 10.00 to 5.30. There is a map on their
web site.
Policemen
When you want one there is never one around. But now you can own your
very own Giles policemen in the form of pin badges / tie pins. At present
there are ten characters, who I am sure that you will recognise from the
cartoons. Have a look at them on one of my new
pages. These are not yet publicly viewable so you are getting the
first look. They are very reasonably priced so award yourself a Christmas
Present. I suspect only available in the UK at present but I am looking
into it and will report back.
Wish
List
Nobody at all responded to the following in my last Newsletter.
Did nobody see it?
There was also a commercial TV programme
biography of Giles that somebody must have taped. If I knew which
TV company then perhaps we could campaign to have it repeated.
A little late, but perhaps you didn't know that Giles Christmas cards are still on sale to support the RNLI. Go to http://www.christmas-cards.org.uk/rnli/
Christmas is coming. I wish you all the fun that is to be had in a Gilesland.
