NEWSLETTER

February 2001

Another Newsletter in the occasional series designed to keep you up to date on what has been happening on the Giles Tribute Pages.

For Sale and Wanted
I have just added a page where you can list those Giles items that you wish to sell or those you are looking for to complete your collection [and of course view what other people need or are offering]. At present it can only be viewed by following this link [http://giles.clickhere2.net/corkboard/index.html] from the Newsletter but on Friday next I shall add a link to the navigation bar.
I hope that you find it useful.

Police Tie-pins
I promised in the last Newsletter to let you know more about the Tie-pins based on Giles police characters.
I have corresponded with Paul and updated the page which is now linked from the 'Non-Book items'. I am waiting for images of a couple of the pins.
Payment must be in Sterling, cheque or bankers draft, otherwise the costs are prohibitive. Remember that these are sold in aid of charity and are exceedingly cheap. If you wish them to be posted overseas then a small donation on top of the price to cover the extra postage would be appreciated.
A number of these are currently sold out and Paul is considering the cost of having new batches made. If you would definitely buy them, then let me know and I will tell him what response I have had.

Cartoon search
I still get requests to find particular cartoons. Some of these I can answer fairly easily but others are more difficult. Currently two are stumping me.

Described as "probably mid 1950's: a Buick being driven into a corner at suicidal speed, with rats baling out of the 'portholes' in the front wings."

The other is "Do you know if the following have ever 'spoken' - Anne, Stinker or George".
Well Stinker, of course, is famously silent. Of the other family members it is mostly Ernie, Mum or Dad who speaks. Other family members speak much less often. Certainly I cannot remember George, the bookworm, speaking. Anybody else have any ideas.

Giles aficionados
As always you are a lovely lot. I get email offering scans of images for the site, as well as help and suggestions. All much appreciated.

Other people send me information or scans of unpublished Giles items [personal notes, cards, etc.] that I very much enjoy looking at. Perhaps I should start a Gallery page where I can put a changing collection of unpublished cartoons. It would have to be with the owners express permission, of course. Good idea?

In the meantime keep in contact.

Steve

ps. I have just noticed that the site is just over one year old! It seems like a lifetime!!
