Another Newsletter in the occasional series designed to keep you up to date on what has been happening on the Giles Tribute Pages.
Not much to report as we pass
midsummer here on the top of the world [it will soon be spring for those
underneath].
Changes
on Site
I had hoped to bring you a real treat. Well, it is still is a treat, but
but not quite so spectacularly as I had hoped. What what I have just uploaded
to the Giles Tribute pages are movies of parts of the Giles drawn adverts
for QuickBrew tea that graced UK television in the early 1980's [I think!].
From a TV profile of Giles which included clips of the ads my friend Nick
Moore kindly converted them into three .avi files. The problem is
that .avi files seem to run at about 580 KB per second so the total of
24.6 seconds runs out at 13.9 MB! Phew!
This means that at the moment you will only see two of the clips as I do not have enough space for all three. It also means that you probably need a fairly fast connection to load the page, or at least that you have time to go away and make a cup of tea. I am hoping to sort the problem in devious ways but they will always be large files. The page is at http://giles.clickhere2.net/quickbrew.htm. There are no links from the main pages yet, you are getting a preview.
Life
of Giles
It occurred to me recently when answering a question from somebody that
there was no easily accessible chronology
of the main events of Giles life. I have tried to address that with the
new Life of Giles page. I intend to add to this page over time as there
are other events that I am still researching dates for. If there are significant
events you think I have missed then mail me. The page is at http://giles.clickhere2.net/giles-life.htm,
again not linked from the main pages yet.
I said it was a quiet time.
Don't forget that previous newsletters are accessible from the Site History
page. Enjoy the summer [or the coming spring]
