NEWSLETTER
No. 7
December 2001
Another Newsletter in the occasional
series designed to keep you up to date on what has been happening on the
Giles Tribute Pages.
Life seems to have been very
busy during the last few months and I am afraid the Giles pages have had
to take a back seat. If you have been watching the site you will have
seen very few changes. [ Remember that additions can be tracked by clicking
the Site History button http://giles.clickhere2.net/history.htm.] And,
of course previous Newsletters are all available from there.
Quickbrew
adverts
These files are still very large as I mentioned in my last Newsletter.
I have, however, turned them into animated GIFs, which means any browser
can view them without plugins. By placing these on another server I have
been able to include all three animations - and even edit together the
one that was split in two. Quality is still not very wonderful but are
available for viewing. They are linked from a page listing all elements
of the Quickbrew
campaign.
Christmas
cards
There is still time [just - how time flies in the run up to Christmas!]
to buy Giles Christmas cards to send to friends and relations.
Go to http://www.christmas-cards.org.uk/rnli/.

Email
If you do not wish to receive further Newsletters then mail
me. Every issue I send out I receive a number returned because people
have changed their mail address. If you wish to keep receiving these Newsletters
then let me know when you change your address.
Caution
A number of items, such as cards and
books, signed by Giles have come up for sale during the year. I have received
a warning from somebody who bought a small collection of signed cards
that on checking he found that the majority of the signatures were forgeries
photocopied on to them. As the signature may add £25 or more to
the price it is worth taking a careful look; I hope to have an article
on detecting forgeries in a future Newsletter. In the meantime if you
come across photocopies signatures please let me know. If this is a big
problem then it is worth reporting more widely and trying to trace the
source.
Birthday
I have been asked a couple of times how you can find a cartoon published
on a particular day [in the last case on somebody's birthday]. To do this
click on the Database button; this will give you a list of years and from
there you will find details of which book has republished the cartoon
for that date [key to books at the bottom of the page]. Remember that
at best there were only three Giles cartoons published a week. If the
date is a blue hyperlink then you are lucky and it is one of the few cartoon
images on the site out of the nearly 7,000 published.
Happy Christmas, Steve
