Introduction by Jim Clark

Giles has been my favourite cartoonist for as long as I can remember. It wasn’t only his superb drawings and splendid characters that first attracted me, it was the wonderfully accurate and almost affectionate way he drew cars into his cartoons.

Do you remember the adventures in that beloved sports car of his? I can still visualise that long-suffering car towing everything from a horse-box to granny in the caravan. It appeared everywhere—from the sea front at Brighton to the Casino in Monte Carlo. I was devoted to it.

Not everyone realised just how much of a motoring enthusiast Giles really is. His enthusiasm has been recognised by the British Racing Drivers’ Club—the club that every young race driver would like to join. He was made an honorary member in November 1961.

This latest Giles Annual again carries the flag of triumph—as high as each of the volumes that went before it.
