Introduction by Dave Allen

One of my pet hates is the introduction which begins—”It gives me great pleasure to introduce someone who needs no introduction”. They then proceed with the most lengthy boring monologue on the special talents of the person they are introducing: “Someone who is known for his wit, his intelligence, his artistry, his professionalism, his diligence, his forthrightness, etc., etc.”, he would appear to do everything except walk on water, and remember all this for someone who needs NO introduction.

Well! I’m stuck with a problem—I’ve been asked to write an introduction for a man renowned not only for his wit, but for his intelligence, his artistry, his professionalism, his diligence, his forthrightness, someone who is known, loved and admired by millions. In other words someone who needs no introduction so I don’t think I’ll bother except to say that Giles is great.
