Introduction by Sir John Betjeman

The subtle humour of Giles cartoons are a gentle reflection of the absurdities of our age.

I am very honoured to have been the subject of a cartoon from the past, loved by Giles, depicting a workman climbing from his demolition machine saying to his foreman: “I’ve just knocked down John Betjeman.” It makes me very glad that I should be singled out as a public monument due for demolition, that puts me in the top class, architecturally at least.

I am delighted to endorse yet another Giles annual.
