Watching Brief

James Comyn
Round Hall, 1993

The cover is based on a Giles cartoon published to raise funds for Private Eye's legal costs in 1976. The cartoon, captioned "These things are sent to try us" giving Giles' view of Appeal Judges, was inspired by the searching of Private Eye's waste baskets in connection with the case Goldsmith versus Private Eye.

The text contains three Giles cartoons.

'A plague on the high price of beef, that's what I say.' 09.01.73

"Not only the Catering Department of the Senior Service who are on the fiddle, eh, Admiral?" 16.11.72

"Oh boy! These two are mine—one civil servant at 14.3%, and one judge at 18.6% wage increase!" 16.05.82
