'We are amused'
The Cartoonists View of Royalty

Peter Grosvenor, Ed.
The Bodley Head,1978

Produced after an exhibition of Royal Cartoons, 'Not By Royal Appointment', at the London Press Club in November 1977 to raise funds for the Queen's Silver Jubilee Trust.

In the book Giles is quoted.
'I make a distinction between pulling their legs and taking the mickey. The first is fun, the second is snide.
'I don't begrudge the Queen any of my taxes for Trooping the Colour. I'd rather see my money go to that than a Blue Streak rocket that won't go off—or even worse one that does go off. We would get greyer and greyer without the Royal Family. Thank God for 'em.'

Grandma as Britannia

Used as the symbol for the cartoon exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in 1970

'We popped our heads up to have our picture taken by Prince Philip and got two barrels off Lord Snowdon.'05.10.61

'Damn Joneses—he's wearing a white tie!' 6.6.1977

'Ask His Royal Highness to come to my office when he's finished his solo flight.'
16.1.1969

While at Trinity College, Cambridge (where Lord 'Rab' Butler was Master) Prince Charles first learned to fly.
